Chandan Yatra

The incarnation of the Supreme Lord in the Deity form is to provide service opportunities and award bliss to His devotees. Lord Jagannath Deva appeared in Nilachal Dham on the desire of His devotee, king Indradhyumn Maharaj, to accept his loving services. And astonishingly, the Lord Himself instructed him on what are the special services He would like to accept from him. One amongst those services is smearing the white sandalwood paste on His transcendental spiritual body. It is celebrated as Chandan Yatra festival which starts from Akshaya Tritiya and celebrated for 21 days. Following Lord Jagannath’s order His vijay-vigrah Sri Madanmohan is taken to Narendra sarovar to sail in the boat along with his minister, Sri Loknath Mahadev and others.

But there is no reason to get disappointed. One gets the actual benefit in all circumstances only by the power of transcendental remembrance.

    Jagannath Deva [Braja-rasa in Dwarka]

As Rohini described the Vrndavan-lila, Krsna and Balaram became aware of what was happening. Coming to the door where Subhadra was standing guard, They could hear the talk of Rohini, and remembering Vrndavan, the Gopis, and all these things, a great intensity of feeling came over Them. A great change of feeling came over Krsna and Balaram, so great that Their bodies also began to change; just as Mahaprabhu had shown when He fell at the gate of the Jagannath Mandir and His arms and legs entered into His body.

The Lord of the Universe—Sri Jagannath Deva is also known as Purushottam. Puri is known as Purushottam Dhama. Sree Chaitanya Mahaprabhu used to sing Sri Jagannath-ashtakam, eight verses of the glory of Jagannatha in Puri. It is written by Sri Adi Sankaracharya, and is still being sung daily before the Deity of Lord Jagannatha for His pleasure. It is respected everywhere in India.
