How can we understand Purushottam month as a person? Question asked by Trilokanath Prabhu via email to Srila Gurudev.

  • Question by a devotee : How can we understand Purushottam month as a person?

Answer by Srila Gurudev : You see, this is the Vedic instruction. Whenever we say Vedic instruction, western people say it is mythology. Don't be so quick to take a decision. We see the Sun. Sun cannot move if there is no sun god behind it, and material things cannot do anything. My body cannot move if consciousness leaves this body. If there are no conscious beings in this hall, this hall will collapse after some years. Wind god is moving at the back of the wind. We see the wind as material but there is wind god behind. There is also sea god, Neptune you believe. Everywhere this world seems to be material but there is Prithvi Devi behind (a personality). Samudra god came to submit his prayer to Ramachandra. Month is also same; Purushottam month takes the form. The Ganges you see water, the presiding deity is Ganga Devi. We are worshipping the Ganges. Like this. In this way this Purushottam month is equal to Krishna. When He has said this Purushottam month is equal to Krishna, we have to accept this immediately and if you observe this then you will get Krishna-prema easily. You can release yourself from offenses, all offenses not only sins, from all offenses. You do it sincerely from the heart. Adhikamas (the additional month), intercalary month, went to Krishna, a material thing cannot go and speak. He or she must be a person. She went there with Narada to Krishna.

We cannot understand by our material sense organs, intellect etc. It is finite, it is nothing. If Krishna takes away consciousness from this, can you do, speak anything? As you would have heard, one person came to our most revered Parampujyapad Bhaktivedanta Swami Maharaj and told him, “I don't believe God." Then Srila Swami Maharaj replied, "Who has given you the power to speak like this? If God takes away the power, can you say I don't believe God, where your power will go?” Like that.
