patitānāṁ pāvanebhyo vaiṣṇavebhyo namo namaḥFirst of all, I pay my innumerable humble prostrated obeisances to the lotus feet of my most revered Gurudeva Nityaleela Pravishta Om Vishnupad 108 Sri Srimad Bhakti Dayita Madhava Goswami Maharaj the Absolute Counterpart of Supreme Lord Sri Krishna and His Grace Incarnate. I pray for his causeless mercy to bestow me the strength to sing the glories of Supreme Lord Sri Krishna and His Personal Associates to purify my mind and to get exclusive one-pointed devotion to Supreme Lord Sri Krishna. I pay my innumerable prostrated humble obeisances to the lotus feet of my most revered Siksha Gurus and pray for their causeless mercy to give me the strength to sing the glories of Supreme Lord Sri Krishna and His Entourage to purify my mind and to get exclusive devotion to Supreme Lord Sri Krishna. I pay my due respects to all who are present here.
Today they have not fixed any subject. But there is no need to fix subject to speak of Krishna. The subject is one, that is to satisfy the Supreme Lord, Original Supreme Lord Sri Krishna. If that purpose is not fulfilled then everything is futile. We should not lose the target. Whether there is any fixation of subject or not, we have to engage ourselves in the service of the Supreme Lord and His Personal Associates with the relation, “I am of them”. If you miss the target then everything is lost. We speak the glories of the Supreme Lord Sri Krishna. Enslaved jivas, enslaved living being like me cannot speak the glories, it is not possible.
How to perform Bhajan to satisfy Krishna is narrated by Brahma in his prayer to Krishna. We have to think about it deeply.
tat te 'nukampāṁ su-samīkṣamāṇo
bhuñjāna evātma-kṛtaṁ vipākam
hṛd-vāg-vapurbhir vidadhan namas te
jīveta yo mukti-pade sa dāya-bhāk
(Srimad Bhagavatam 10.14.8)If you generally see and observe, you may not be able to understand. Whatever troubles you are getting in this world, you have to see the grace of the Supreme Lord. In this trouble or circumstance, tat te anukampam, anukampa - means compassion, His grace, His kindness, susamikshamana - only by observing and by general vision you would not be able to understand, samikshamana - by saying amikshama, yet Vedvyasa muni is not satisfied. Samikshmana means thoroughly observing, susamikshamana - that is nicely immaculately if you see then you will understand, whatever is done by Supreme Lord is for the eternal benefit of all, it is for my benefit. Whatever suffering we are getting, we are getting due to our own bad actions. We are not to blame others. This you will find in the biography of Dhruva. Chaitanya Mahaprabhu heard this hundred times only to teach the conditioned souls of the world. He thought, “They should go through the holy lives of pure devotees as they may commit a mistake in understanding Krishna.” So He has played this pastime. We have to follow devotees. Dhruva was rebuked by his stepmother severely. Actually externally we see that there Dhruva has not committed any wrong. He did it only out of malice. Dhruva was the son of Suniti Devi, one year older than Uttama, the son of Suruchi. At that time, that was the Indian legal arrangement that the crown prince will be the eldest son. For that reason, Suruchi has got some kind of malice. She spoke harsh words and also did not allow Dhruva to sit on the lap of Uttanapada. Uttanapada was not saying anything to Suruchi, that son Dhruva will stay on my lap, he is my son. Uttanapad is also henpecked. To satisfy his wife he is adoring the son of Suruchi. At that age children have got a sort of desire, if any child is liked by his parents, he also wants that. For that reason, Dhruva was a child, he came and said, “Oh father, Pappa take me in your lap”. Although the King had the desire to adore Dhruva also, but could not do so by seeing the falcon eyes of Suruchi, junior queen. For that reason, he did not say anything. After that when Dhruva was in melancholy state, at that time Suruchi came and said, "You are young, the King loves me, so my son will sit on the throne and on the lap of the father. Your mother is not liked by the King. You are born of that mother. You will not be allowed to sit on the lap. If you want to sit you have to worship Supreme Lord. Supreme Lord's theory is the foremost among all demigods and all, that is to offer boons. After worshipping Supreme Lord and when he will be satisfied, He will come to you. Then you take two boons from Him that you should die and you should be born in my womb. Then you shall be loved by your father”. He is the son of a Kshatriya, military family. He has got much pain in the heart so he went straight to his mother and cried loudly. Mother tried to pacify him. Later when his mother came to learn that such and such thing has happened, she also could not give him solace. Ultimately she said, “Whatever Suruchi has said is correct. You have to worship Hari. By worshipping Hari you will get more property than your father.”
Dhruva asked, “Who is Hari?”
She replied, “Hari is Padma-palash-locahn—He is one who has lotus like eyes.”
Dhruva, “How to get him?”
Suniti, “You utter His name, then you will get”.
Dhruva then made up his mind, “I shall go out of the house and I shall go on chanting, 'kahan padma palash lochan Hari'—where is my lotus-eyed, Hari? And after that if I get Narayana I shall be alive, otherwise, I shall finish my body.” Suniti Devi by seeing the face of Dhruva learned that he was determined to worship. Then she gave him one warning, “You have got the desire to worship the Lord that I have learned, but if you worship Him by blaming your stepmother or anybody in this world then Hari will not be satisfied.”
māmaṅgalaṁ tāta pareṣu maṁsthā
bhuṅkte jano yat para-duḥkhadas tat
(Srimad Bhagavatam 4.8.17)One who sincerely wants Hari and nothing else, he should not blame others otherwise God will be dissatisfied immediately. Dhruva had the qualification. Suniti warned him, “You should not have animosity towards your stepmother and any kind of feeling against your father or against anybody. Whatever you are getting you are getting by your own karma. We eat the fruits of our own actions, nobody is to be blamed”.
Dhruva accepted these teachings totally and chanted the name and got the grace of the Supreme Lord. I do not want to go through this because of a lack of time.
But you go through this. You should act like Dhruva. Only going through Dhruva, Prahlad, Ambarish Maharaj pastimes will not help. You have to accept their actions like, what they are doing and what they did. You should follow that. God is equal to all. Then you will get the objective. Here it is said, 'tat te anukampam susamikshamana' — nicely immaculately if you see then you will understand, whatever is done by Supreme Lord is for the eternal benefit of all, it is for my benefit. First when we see very nicely, immaculately and thoroughly then you will understand whatever suffering you are getting is due to your own karma either in this birth or previous birth. Someone else may be instrumental but he is not the cause. This you have to remember. Don't blame anyone. Without blaming anyone Dhruva became free, his mind was pure and he continuously chanted, 'kahan padmapalash lochan Hari' where is lotus-eyed Hari? Narada Goswami came and the minds of all the persons who were against Dhruva became contingency. Suruchi started weeping, Uttanapad also started weeping, everybody is weeping. Dhruva did not go to anybody. By Lord's satisfaction, all were satisfied. Nowadays the world situation has become such that we should not wait. We should take action, should take shelter to Him. He is the only Rescuer, Master. Nobody in this world will rescue us. No police, no Government. But He can rescue us actually and we should take actual shelter to Him and do bhajan without blaming anybody. It is due to our own karma we are getting this. In this way, you have to make your heart quite pure and with that pure heart you worship. Then you will be benefitted and by seeing you others will be benefitted. Whether you have understood me or not? Don't blame others. Now you have heard me here. Just after going out from here and if you say that person is very bad, then what is the use? Any moment you may die. What benefit you are giving him and what benefit you will get by speaking all these things. For that reason, Srimad Bhagavatam declares,
labdhvā su-durlabham idaṁ bahu-sambhavānte
mānuṣyam artha-dam anityam apīha dhīraḥ
tūrṇaṁ yateta na pated anu-mṛtyu yāvan
niḥśreyasāya viṣayaḥ khalu sarvataḥ syāt
(Srimad Bhagavatam 11.9.29)(This human form of life is obtained after many, many births, and although it is not permanent, it can offer the highest benefits. Therefore a sober and intelligent man should immediately try to attain the highest benefit in life before another death occurs. One should avoid sense gratification, which is available in all circumstances)
For one month Srila Saraswati Prabhupad spoke about this verse. Tat te anukampam susamikshamana bhunjana enatma krtam vipakam—when you see very nicely, immaculately and thoroughly and will understand that whatever suffering you are getting is due to your own karma either in this birth or previous birth then you can engage your mind, words and sense organs in the service of Krishna the whole time. When there is no animosity and no hostile mentality to anybody in your mind and the mind is clear, then only bhajan will be alright. God will appear. You will get bliss and you will give bliss to others.
