Glories of Sita Devi

Harikatha, Sreela Bhakti Ballabh Tirtha Goswami Maharaj

While singing the glories of Srimati Sita Devi, the internal potency of Lord Ramachandra, Srila Gurudev emphasized her deep devotion to Lord Ramacandra and how she became His dear-most. If we remember Lord Ramachandra and Srimati Sita Devi from the core of our hearts, all worldly desires, sinful inclinations, and ulterior motives that bind us to this material world will vanish.

  • While singing the glories of Srimati Sita Devi, the internal potency of Lord Ramchandra, Srila Gurudev emphasized how devoted was Sita Devi to Lord Ramchandra, and how She became His dear most. If we remember Lord Ramachandra and Srimati Sita Devi from the core of our hearts, all the ulterior worldly desires, sinful desires and all kinds of ulterior motives that bind us in this material world will vanish.

After Lord Ramachandra returned to Ayodhya, three sacrificial ceremonies were performed. In the third sacrificial ceremony, Valmiki Rishi came there along with Lav and Kush. After hearing Ramayan from Lav and Kush, Lord Ramachandra came to know that both of them were His sons. After that, Sita Devi was called for and was asked to prove Her chastity for the third time for the satisfaction of the habitants of the kingdom.

Sita Devi said, “I had already proved My chastity twice before, I have to prove it again?” Saying thus Sita Devi, in front of everybody, addressed Prithvi devi (Mother Earth), “O Prithvi Devi! If I have not thought about any person other than My husband in My mind, and if I have engaged all My senses all the time in the service of My beloved husband only, then please separate into two parts.” Earth immediately split open and divided into two parts; a throne came out of it. Sita Devi then sat on that throne and left for Rasatala.

All the habitants of the kingdom hailed Her. What did Lord Ramachandra do? He started weeping in the grief of Sita Devi’s separation. Did He doubt the chastity of Sita Devi? No! For the pleasure of the residents of the kingdom, He took all pains on Him, but at last, He couldn’t tolerate this upon the most chaste Sita Devi. For the Ashvamedha sacrifice purpose, everyone advised Him to marry again but He did not accept it. Instead, He ordered the preparation of a golden idol of Sita Devi and performed the sacrificial ceremony. If He had any doubt about Sita Devi’s chastity then would He have prepared Her golden image? She served Him in such a manner. Such a chaste woman She is! Beyond comprehension!

If we remember Lord Ramachandra and Sita Devi from the core of our hearts, all the ulterior worldly desires, sinful desires and all kinds of ulterior motives that bind us in this material world will vanish.
