Places Visited by Srila Param Gurudev have become Dham

Harikatha, Sreela Bhakti Ballabh Tirtha Goswami Maharaj

Srila Gurudev first narrates about the fortune of the places visited by Srila Paramgurudev. His words are the expression of the deep connection he has with his Gurudev. He also narrates about how Srila Praramgurudev served his Gurudev, Srila Bhakti Siddhanta Sarasvati Thakur Prabhupad.

  • At first, I pay my innumerable prostrated obeisances to the lotus feet of my most worshipable divine master, who is the redeemer of the fallen souls, the bestower of knowledge on the Absolute, the non-different manifestation of the Supreme Lord and the bestower of service of the Supreme Lord. I pray for his causeless mercy. I pay my prostrated obeisances to the lotus feet of the worshipable Vaishnavas and pray for their causeless mercy. I pay my due respects to all the devotees who are inclined to hear discourses. May they all become satisfied.

Today is our last day at Bhatinda. Tomorrow at 9 am we will leave from here for Rajapura. A car will come to receive us. We have a special connection with Bhatinda. Why is that? Because Bhatinda is the place sanctified by the lotus feet of our Gurudev, the founder-ācārya of All-India Sree Chaitanya Gaudiya Math, the mercy embodiment of the Supreme Lord, seeing whom, we have come to Math, the associate of the Supreme Lord, the non-different manifestation of the Supreme Lord, one amongst the prominent disciples of Nityalila-pravista Om Vishnupad Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Goswami Thakur. He made his auspicious arrival at this place. There are devotees here who have taken his shelter. Because of this, we have a connection with this place. The place where exalted personalities make their arrival becomes the highest place of pilgrimage. Our Gurudev is not an ordinary person. He is the personal associate of the Supreme Lord. His arrival here is not an ordinary subject matter. It is the greatest fortune; Supreme Lord resides in the heart of a pure devotee. When Vidura made his arrival at Yudhisthir Maharaj's house, Yudhisthir Maharaj said, "I am grateful to you."

    bhavad-vidhā bhāgavatās
    tīrtha-bhūtāḥ svayaṁ vibho
    tīrthī-kurvanti tīrthāni
    svāntaḥ-sthena gadābhṛtā
    (Srimad Bhagavat 1.13.10)

Bhagavat-vaishnava like you is the embodiment of the pilgrim place in itself. Ordinary people, by washing their sins, contaminate the pilgrimage places. When pure devotee like you put your holy feet there, those places again become pilgrimage places.

    īśvaraḥ sarva-bhūtānāṁ
    hṛd-deśe ’rjuna tiṣṭhati
    bhrāmayan sarva-bhūtāni
    yantrārūḍhāni māyayā
    (Srimad Bhagavad Gita 18.61)

The Supreme Lord resides in the heart of every living being. But not all of them have that realization. The Supreme Lord is not manifested, revealed in everyone's heart. A small boy can have the ability to obtain an M.A. degree but till the time he obtains that degree one will not get any benefit from him pertaining to that. Similarly, though the Supreme Lord resides in the heart of every living being, the conditioned being entangled by the illusory energy of the Supreme Lord does not have the realization of His presence. On the other hand, the Supreme Lord is revealed in the heart of pure devotees; they have that realization. So by going to a conditioned soul, we do not get that benefit.

When we roamed around along with Guruji, wherever we went, there used to be so many devotees around. Wherever we stayed, we were blissful. But if he sent us somewhere for preaching, however good the arrangement was, we used to feel complete void. On the contrary, even if we used to go to any small village where the accommodation was not so good, like a small hut, as Guruji was present there, there used to be bliss all around. One time, we went to a place along with Guruji where the accommodation was good; there was a big building for our stay, good food; everything was good but one day Guruji said that he was being invited for a meeting in Vrindavan by his senior godbrother, Srila Bon Goswami Maharaj, so he had to go. He asked us to stay there. Referring to me, he said to all of us, "He will speak Harikatha and you all perform kirtan at different places." Everything was there like ghee, oil, rice, wheat; everything. He also gave us some money; we did not have scarcity for anything. But as soon as Guruji left, our hearts became fully void; everything was there, I was there; other devotees were there, but why did we feel so much of void on Guruji's leaving that place? Why do the devotees desire to go to Guruji? Having such a desire is not bad. But to follow the order of Guruji, sometimes the disciples have to separate from him. However, they always follow the order of their Gurudev, they can have the inner want to stay with him wherever he goes. Why does such want come? It is because the Supreme Lord is revealed in the heart of Srila Gurudev, bliss is present in him, All-Existence, All-Knowledge, All-Bliss is present in him. This is the reason why everyone feels blissful in his vicinity, immaterial of wherever they stay; it could be city, village, a hut or a building. Gurudev has such attraction. Devotees becoming attracted to him was not at all surprising; it was all natural.

Whenever our Gurudev used to go to different places, devotees who took his shelter also used to go along with him. Was that not so? There are many great souls but, in that category, also there is gradation. Our Gurudev was not an ordinary person. Twenty-four out of twenty-four hours a day, he used to be engaged in the service of Supreme Lord in a transcendentally maddened state. Parampujyapad Srila Sridhar Deva Goswami Maharaj used to tell us, "Your Gurudev is Volcanic Energy." Nobody, not even a single person can quote a one instance where Srila Gurudev was ordered by his Gurudev and he has not accomplished that service. Srila Prabhupad one time strongly ordered his disciples to acquire land near Kurukshetra for Supreme Lord's service. Srila Gurudev went there; other devotees also went. As Kurukshetra was nearby, everyone had the desire to go there for darshan. Listening to their desire, Srila Gurudev said, "It is the order of our Gurudev; he has sent us for the service, how can I go along leaving this service? You all can go. I will not. I am been sent here for this service responsibility."

Such was his surrender. He not only spoke in words that, "I am the servant of my Gurudev", he practically acted upon those words. It is not an ordinary thing to get such an ideal. Twenty-four out of twenty-four hours a day, he had already given himself for the service of his Gurudev with utmost sincerity. Nobody, not even any of his god-brothers could say that Prabhupad ordered him to do something and he not accomplished that. No one can say so. The strength for following Gurudev's order comes automatically. There are many servants of Lord Ramchandra. But He has special affection for Bajarangabali (Hanuman). Is it possible? The Lord is not partial; He is impartial, equal to all. But the service attitude what Bajarangabali has, no-one else has. The Lord will manifest Himself according to the degree of surrender. Whatever difficult situation came to Ramchandra, Hanuman stayed on His side. If by realizing the situation, we try to abscond from there and change our side according to our own comforts then we will be called selfish. Hanuman is not selfish. Our Gurudev was not like so. Whenever any difficult situation came to any vaishnava, Srila Gurudev made himself available to help him. We have witnessed such instances. We keep relation in good times and try to escape in difficult situations. Such a person is not called servant. A true servant is ready to face any sort of situation for serving his master. Ramchandra infused all His energy to Hanuman. Hanuman has humbleness in him because he is a vaishnava.
