Birth Centennial Annual of Om Vishnupad 108 Sri Srimad Bhakti Ballabh Tirtha Goswami Maharaj, Acharya of Sree Chaitanya Gaudiya Math (Regd.)

The glow of the Holy Name (namabhas) can destroy sins of millions of births as in the case of Sri Ajamila. But if anybody commits offense to Vishnu and Vaishnavas, his utterance of the Holy Name is not namabhas.

    Characteristics of Bona Fide Guru

Śrī Viśwanāth Chakravarty Ṭhākur, in his commentary, has given a clue to the bona fide neophyte aspirants to recognize guru by one external quality—a bona fide guru is not subdued by passions— anger, greed etc. Of course, a realized soul can use the passions for the service of the Supreme Lord and for the eternal benefit of conditioned souls, but he can never be subjugated by them.

      Vedavyas Muni - Shaktyavesh Avatar

On this most auspicious Tithi of Guru-purnima, the appearance day of Srila Krishna-dvaipayan Vedavyasa Muni and disappearance day of Srila Sanatan Goswami, Srila Gurumaharaj narrates the life of both the exalted personalities in brief. Specifically, he emphasizes on the main teachings one needs to accept from their lives. Vedavyas Muni is Shaktyavesh avatar of the Lord, non-different from the Lord Himself. He was a very learned person who wrote so many scriptures. In spite of writing so many scriptures, he did not get inner peace in his heart. On the order of his Gurudev, Srila Narad Goswami, when he sang the glories of the Supreme Lord, he experienced the highest bliss in his heart.

      Manifestations of Guru

Disciples perform gurupūja by singing the glories of Gurudeva, I perform gurupūja by hearing. But by hearing the glories, if I have got the evil motive of misappropriating it, it will not be gurupūja. As chanting is bhakti, hearing is also bhakti. In whatever way devotees may express their hearts, they are all my objects of worship.

      Follow the Mahajanas

Chanting the holy name of Krishna is the path of devotional service exhibited by the previous mahajanas. A path cannot be manufactured. Whatever path is there should be accepted by sadhus. Those who are proud and want fame try vigorously to discover new paths. Those who have good fortune from past lives give up pride and respect the established path. Those who are unfortunate promenade on a new path and thus cheat the world.

The Spiritual Master and the Disciple

Higher knowledge won’t come to serve the interests of the lower plane but I must pledge to serve that plane. With this attitude, I shall approach that plane and that knowledge. I shall serve Him and I won’t try to make Him serve me or my lower plane. Rather, I shall have the fullest tendency that if I get that knowledge I must serve. I must offer myself to be utilized by Him, and I shall not try to utilize it in my way, to satisfy my lower animal purposes.

Veda (Divinity Himself) is giving beneficial instruction to the sādhus—O sādhus! Rise up (withdraw your material senses from the material objects completely,) awake (be reinstated in your own real self,) and sincerely endeavor to know God, praying for the grace of great saints. This world is as sharp as a razor (full of miseries), and as such it is very difficult to get deliverance. It is impossible to cross the ocean of births and deaths without worship of Divinity. The realized saints say that without careful zealous efforts nobody can get God-realization, the panacea of the malady of worldly afflictions, i.e. nobody can cross the ocean of births and deaths without worship of God, taking absolute shelter at the lotus feet of Gurudeva.

        Highest Munificent Form of Godhead

A votary, to satisfy Chaitanya Mahāprabhu and the Supreme Lord Śrī Krishna, should at least practice the first and third verses of Śikṣāṣṭaka sincerely from the core of the heart. Chaitanya Mahāprabhu has taught in the first verse, mainly seven principal attainments or more correctly all attainments while doing Śrī Rādhā-Krishna sankīrtan.

His kīrtana is Only for Bhagavan’s Pleasure

Krishna is telling Narada Goswami ‘mad-bhaktā yatra gāyanti tatra tiṣṭhāmi nārada’ (Padma Puran). 'Wherever My devotees assemble and sing the glories of My Name, Form, Attributes, Pastimes and Personal Associates is the place that I stay.' Also, Srila Gurudev would refer to Sri Vyasa Deva’s pastime of attaining eternal bliss after he wrote Srimad Bhagavatam exclusively for the pleasure of the Lord on the advice of his Guru Narada Goswami. Here Srila Bhakti Kushala Padmanabha Maharaj is affectionately remembering the same teaching of Gurudev through his kirtans and harikatha. that all the limbs of devotion should be performed with the sole purpose of propitiating the Supreme Lord and nothing else.
