Abandoning of varnasrama- dharma and relinquishing of bodily relations and friends are allowed if it is for the propitiation of the Supreme Lord. If there is any other ulterior motive, such as to fulfill material desires, the abandoning of varnasrama duties and relations will be considered as a sinful act.

    Surrender to the Positive

As much as we can make progress towards the positive, automatically the negative will have to withdraw, to leave us. The positive is sadhu-sanga, sadhu-sastra-sanga, association with saints and scriptures. No other thing is needed, only the simple thing: our association with the sadhu. And association with the sadhu means, with surrender. So, surrender to the positive, and, according to the degree of surrender, and confidence in what the sadhu and sastra say, automatically the negative, the apparently irresistible demands of material desire, will be withdrawn.

Śrī Lokanātha Gosvāmī & Śrī Bhūgarbha Gosvāmī

The Lord knows the desires of His devotees and feels Himself obliged to fulfill them. He came personally to give Lokanath Gosvāmī a deity, telling him before disappearing that its name is Radha-Vinoda. Lokanath Gosvāmī was astonished at seeing the appearance of deities and started to wonder who gave him those deities. Radha-vinoda cast His sweet glance on Lokanath Gosvāmī and said to him, “ I have been living in this village of Umarao on the banks of Kishorī Kund. I saw your eagerness to serve Me and so I came here on My own. Who else but Me could have brought Me to you? I am very hungry. Quickly prepare something for Me to eat.” When Lokanath Gosvāmī heard these words, tears began to flow from his eyes.

      Glories of Srila Lokanath Goswami

This Harikatha was delivered on 18th July 2006, on the disappearance day of Srila Lokanath Goswami. Srila Gurudev gave important teachings while narrating the glories of Srila Lokanath Goswami. He recalls two incidents of Srila Paramgurudev giving instructions to the devotees in the Math. He then recalls one incident from his childhood and narrates how his mother, out of great affection for them, would care for them even when her own health was poor. He teaches us that wherever there is love and affection, service naturally follows.

      Śrī Gopāla Bhaṭṭa Gosvāmī

Śrī Gopāla Bhaṭṭa Gosvāmī appeared in 1500 AD (though, according to some authorities, he was born in 1503) as the son of Venkata Bhatta in the town of Srirangam in South India. Their residence was in a village not far from Srirangam called Belagundi. According to Narahari in the Bhakti-ratnakara, Srila Gopal Bhatta Gosvāmī was given a vision in a dream by Mahaprabhu in which he was fortunate enough to witness all the Lord's Nabadwip pastimes. An eternal associate of Krishna, he appeared in a faraway place in order to participate in Lord Gauranga's pastimes.

Srila Gurudeva, following the instructions of Guruvarga, gives utmost importance to remember Vaishnavas, pray for their mercy and sing their glories on their appearance and disappearance days. Jhulan-yatra

In Kamyavan of Sri Vrindavan-dham, RadhaKrishna perform the swinging pastimes daily with all the confidants and get immersed in immense bliss. Conditioned souls (ordinary aspirants) are not entitled to enter into such pastimes. Mercifully, our Guruvargas have given us the permission to remember and worship the swing pastime in the month of Shravan starting from Ekadashi (11th lunar day) till the full moon day. We can do this worship for five days as per Archan-marg. They specifically advised us to worship these pastimes along with Sankirtan, by praying for the grace, for entering into the transcendental realm.

Srila Gurudev speaks about Harismaran Mahotsava (the Mahotsava one-pointedly dedicated for remembering the Supreme Lord Sri Hari) introduced by Srila Paramgurudev. It is a one-month festival starting from the first day of Jhulan-yatra. Srila Gurudev speaks about the mood with which our Guruvarga have advised us to perform Jhulan-yatra. He elaborates about Raghava Goswami’s vision of Vraja-dhama and the swinging pastimes. Sad-goswami-astakam is also explained elaborately.

Those devotees who are eligible to perform worship following scriptural injunctions (Vidhi-marga) are not entitled to participate in the swinging pastimes of RadhaGovinda. This is because RadhaKrishna is the object of worship in the mode of spontaneous devotion. Though it seems that we are worshipping RadhaKrishna in an opulent manner but in actuality we are performing worship of Lakshmi Narayan. We do not have the eligibility to worship them in spontaneous mode since we commit so many offences.

        Jhulan-yatra Harikatha Day 4 (English)

In the swinging festival, only Gopis are allowed. Gopi’s love is the highest love. How Gopis are completely attached with Krishna is beyond our imagination! Even Nanda Maharaj, Yashoda Devi, other friends and servants are not allowed. But yet our Guruvarga advised us to perform the swinging festival in the mood of deity worship (archana-bhakti), at whatever stage we are. We can worship swinging pastimes for the four-five days by archana-bhakti. It is Vidhi-bhakti—devotional practice with regulated scriptural injunctions.

        Jhulan-yatra

Traditionally, in the Jhulan-yatra (swinging festival), conditioned souls (ordinary aspirants) are not entitled to enter. Yet, our Guruvarga has introduced this. This is a type of worship of Supreme Lord. We can do this worship for 5 days as per Archan marg. So our guruvarga said you can do it through sankirtan, by praying for grace, for entering into the transcendental realm. But as long as there is material ego there is no possibility.

Curing the Fever of Material Existence

Here, with different evidences from scriptures Srila Sant Maharaj explains that only by surrendering unto the Supreme Lord one can remain aloof from maya. The living entity becomes so influenced by the modes of material nature that he considers sense gratification to be the most desirable goal, even though it brings him only distress. Our state of bondage has existed since time without beginning, and is quite impossible for human intelligence to undo. It can be unraveled only by associating with sadhus, realized souls. Even a moment’s association with a sadhu can award all perfection.

A votary, to satisfy Chaitanya Mahāprabhu and the Supreme Lord Śrī Krishna, should at least practice the first and third verses of Śikṣāṣṭaka sincerely from the core of the heart. His kīrtana is Only for Bhagavan’s Pleasure

Krishna is telling Narada Goswami ‘mad-bhaktā yatra gāyanti tatra tiṣṭhāmi nārada’ (Padma Puran). 'Wherever My devotees assemble and sing the glories of My Name, Form, Attributes, Pastimes and Personal Associates is the place that I stay.' Also, Srila Gurudev would refer to Sri Vyasa Deva’s pastime of attaining eternal bliss after he wrote Srimad Bhagavatam exclusively for the pleasure of the Lord on the advice of his Guru Narada Goswami. Here Srila Bhakti Kushala Padmanabha Maharaj is affectionately remembering the same teaching of Gurudev through his kirtans and harikatha. that all the limbs of devotion should be performed with the sole purpose of propitiating the Supreme Lord and nothing else.
