Birth Centennial Annual of Om Vishnupad 108 Sri Srimad Bhakti Ballabh Tirtha Goswami Maharaj, Acharya of Sree Chaitanya Gaudiya Math (Regd.)
The criterion to understand what we are to do and what we are not to do, is given by Veda Vyās Muni himself in Padma Purāṇa - we are to always remember Krishna, never to forget Him. There are some prescribed devotional practices to remember Krishna and there are also some prohibitions against those that make us forget Krishna. If there be any action beyond the prescribed commandments which will remind you of Krishna, it is allowed, and prohibitions which will make you forget Krishna are prohibited.

Rathayatra - The Cart Festival
Lord Jagannathdev Himself instructed Indradyumn Maharaj on what are the services He would like to accept from him. After His Chandan Yatra festival for 21 days, He ordered the King to perform the bathing ceremony. After that again the King wanted another service. Then the Lord said, 'You do Rathayatra'. After the bathing ceremony, Jagannathdev made the pastimes of being ill for 15 days, ill of fever. Then He said, 'I want to see all my devotees, many of them are not allowed to enter in the temple, I want to see them and they should be given the scope to see me. If they will see me they will get eternal welfare.'

Since Divine Knowledge awakens one’s relation with the Supreme Lord and vanquishes all sinful activities (the sin, root cause of the sin and ignorance) from their root, the realized souls identify this process as dīkṣā.
